Security Operations Center (SOC) Cyber Engineer

The role of the Security Operations Center (SOC) Cyber Engineer is a level 1 roleusually held by a junior level engineer. Working as part of a team the SOC Engineer’s primary role is to work on helpdesk tickets for our Managed Security Services (MSS) department.

The position is dual-rolled, combining a Cyber Security Analyst and a Network Security Engineer at a junior level. This role will build a foundation across all aspects of MSS technologies, allowing for the candidate to choose their career path within VirtualArmour.

The Cyber Security Analyst’s role is to help protect our customer networks against cybersecurity threats such as hackers, Cyber-terrorists and malware that can steal or corrupt sensitive customer data. This is accomplished by monitoring and analysing customer networks, servers, databases and end-point equipment for key indicators of compromise. Once a possible threat is detected the analyst must investigate, respond to and report to our customers with any recommended remediation.

The Network Security engineer role is to monitor, maintain and configure customer networks and security devices such a switches, routers, firewalls and virtual private networks (VPNs). Our network customers

SOC Cyber Engineers will be enrolled into the VirtualArmour Academy, where students will be trained in all aspects of the role.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor the MSS helpdesk and react to new and existing tickets at a 1st line/Tier 1 level. 
  • Tackle all MSS tickets regardless of the technology stream the ticket focuses on. 
  • Respond to Security Incident and Event Management (SIEM) platform alerts by investigating and analysing potential security breaches and cyber security incidents. 
  • Investigate monitoring alerts for network devices such as an interface up/down, and alerting the customer appropriately.
  • Monitor customer environments for security/network issues. 
  • Manage, monitor and alert customer equipment.
  • Install security measures and operate software to protect systems and information infrastructure, including firewalls and data encryption programs. 
  • Document and research security breaches and assess the damage they cause. 
  • Work with customers security team to perform tests and uncover network vulnerabilities. 
  • Help remediate detected vulnerabilities to maintain a high-security standard. 
  • Become current on IT security trends and news. 
  • Adhere to company-wide best practices for IT security. 
  • Research security enhancements and make recommendations to management. 
  • Stay up-to-date on information technology trends and security standards. 
  • Escalate tickets to more experienced engineers or 2nd Line team where appropriate.
Requirements
  • A desire to work in either Cyber security or Network security fields 
  • 1+ Year experience in industry is desired 
  • Have the ability to demonstrate an understanding of IP technologies or Cyber Security 
  • Desired experience in SIEM platforms – such as Splunk, QRadar or AlienVault etc 
  • Desired experience in routing switching and firewalls – such as Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto or Fortinet. 
Qualifcations
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience within IT. 
  • Candidates with vendor specific qualifications are preferred, such as CCNA, JNCIA, PCNSE 

Network Security Engineer

This is a support role, focused on managing and maintaining customer networks and security. The role is to cover helpdesk tickets involving tasks such as configuring and troubleshooting routing, switching, firewalls and network access control. Working closely with our customers to ensure that a high level of service is provided, and value added at every customer engagement. This position will suit an experienced Network Security engineer or a Network Engineer looking to move into a more security focused role.  

We’re looking for a person who already has a background in Network Security. 

The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with strong problem-solving skills. The ability to work in a fast pace, results driven environment, ensuring that service levels are met is essential for a successful candidate.

The candidate must be comfortable working in a highly technical environment and be able to communicate their findings to non-technical customers.

Requirements

2+ years’ experience in the industry  

A solid understanding of core networking and network security principles in the following fields is a must.

  • Switching technologies such as STP, VLAN Trunking
  • Routing technologies such as OSPF, EIGRP & BGP
  • Network Address Translation
  • Site to Site and SSL VPN
  • Firewall security policies 

Strong experience of at least one of the following vendor equipment: 

  • Palo Alto 
  • Cisco Routing and Switching 
  • Cisco ASA (with FirePower services preferable)  
  • Juniper SRX, EX and QFX  
Qualifcations

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent level of experience within IT

Regional Sales Director

We are looking for an experienced Regional Sales Director with a minimum of 5 years IT sales and account management experience, preferably with a manufacturer or VAR. Experience in selling services a major plus.

The RSD will work cooperatively with their Sales/Systems Engineer, inside sales team, service team, engineering and members of the management team to generate new customers while meeting or exceeding monthly, quarterly and annual sales quotas at the appropriate gross margin while increasing customer satisfaction.

Description

This role is to go after new business and develop and close opportunities across a defined geographic territory. The candidate will be territory, rather than specific-account focused, and will excel in this dynamic hunting role, to constantly bring growth of their territory. S/He will be responsible for opportunities which will have been identified either through key technology partners, channel partners, been escalated from Inside Sales or part of new customer acquisition activity. This position will require lead generation, lead nurturing and working alongside technology partners to generate pipeline and close opportunities. S/he will work with partners to break into these new accounts by winning initial deals. The emphasis will be on new customer acquisition.

This position requires excellent solution selling skills and a background in Technology. Consistent communication and interaction with outside sales, internal sales, technology manufactures and potential customers is a must.

CyberSecurity Analyst

The role of CyberSecurity Analyst is a level 2 role. Working as part of a team the primary role is to work with customers for our Managed Security Services (MSS) department.

Working closely with our customers to ensure that a high level of service is provided, and value added at every customer engagement. This position will suit an experienced Network Security engineer or a Network Engineer looking to move into a more security focused role. 

We’re looking for a person who already has a very strong background in Network Security.

The ideal candidate will be a quick learner with strong problem-solving skills. The ability to work in a pressurized environment with conflicting priorities, ensuring that service level agreements are met is essential for the successful candidate.

Cyber Operations Developer

Middlesbrough, UK

There is an opportunity within the company for a self -motivated graduate with a Computer Science Degree, strong programming skills (Phython is preferable but C++, C#, Java would all be suitable) and a knowledge / interest in working in a cyber-security context. Knowledge/interest in machine learning would be beneficial.

This post is initially a 12 month contract, supported by Grow Tees Valley, European Regional Development Funding. As such you will be provided with a predefined work plan and ½ day per week support from an academic supervisor to deliver it.

The role is to carry out a current state analysis of the company’s existing systems and processes, review these against their predefined service delivery roadmap and then develop a holistic business system that achieves its aims.

Based on successful completion of the work plan, it is the intention to retain the appointed candidate to lead future development of the system’s functionality. This will likely lead to application of machine learning and artificial intelligence to further enhance the company’s global services. However, please note that Personal Development budgets can be applied for to support any upskilling required along the way.

£24,000 – £27,000 (Dependent on Experience) + Personal Development Budget
